Treatment options depend on the type of hearing loss, some types are medically or surgically correctible. However the majority of us have hearing loss that is sensorineural in nature which is effectively treated with hearing instruments, not by medications or surgery.
After completing a thorough evaluation, the hearing healthcare professional will discuss the results and recommendations with the individual, including how any hearing loss may be affecting her or his quality of life.
Solutions will be offered, which may include hearing aids and assistive devices, such as personal listening systems (e.g., FM systems) or telephone amplifying devices. These potential solutions will be discussed in detail and the individual’s listening needs and concerns will be taken into account, as well as cosmetic and financial concerns.
Once the individual and the hearing healthcare professional have chosen the appropriate hearing aid to address the individuals lifestyle needs and hearing loss, the following steps may be expected:
Earmold impressions are made by the hearing healthcare professional during an office visit. The procedure is necessary for any hearing instrument that will have a custom fit in the individual's ear. The process includes inserting an oto-block in the ear canal, which is a tiny soft sponge with a cord attached. Then a silicone material is gently injected into the canal to get a complete impression of the ear canal. Once the silicone material is set, the impression is gently pulled out of the ear and sent to Audina with the completed order form to have the hearing instruments built to the order. The entire procedure is quick and painless.
A follow-up appointment is usually scheduled a few weeks after the initial fitting to monitor the individual's progress and to make any necessary adjustments based on feedback shared by the individual wearing the new instruments.
Additional follow-up appointments may be scheduled as needed to address any further concerns that the individual experiences and cleaning and maintenance.
